- Kidney biopsies and skin biopsies (in normal saline and not formalin) are accepted for direct immunofluorescence (the tissue should preferably reach the laboratory within 2 hours of biopsy in normal saline)
- Direct immunofluorescence (DIF) is an essential part of kidney biopsy evaluation for diagnosis of various medical renal diseases.
- DIF is also useful for diagnosis of vesico-bullous lesions of skin.
